This summer I will ponder ancient manuscripts in Reykjavik and investigate the site of what was (maybe) Erik's house. Then I will hitch a ride on a boat to Greenland, dodging the icebergs as we cross the northernmost part of the Atlantic.
In Greenland, I will explore glaciers, islands and fjords scattered with Norse and Inuit ruins. I want
to learn about how you can live on this enormous, mostly frozen island. The Norse colony lasted a mere 500 years before mysteriously
'dying out': explanations for this have often cited climate cooling, so
I also want to learn about how this century's climate change is
affecting locals. I'll be visiting scientists, farmers and more.
